Have you ever felt like God hit the pause button on your life, and forgot to press play again? You’ve prayed. You’ve prepared. You’ve posted all the encouraging quotes. You've read the books and put in the work.
You aren't giving up.
But deep down, you’re wondering… God, is it my turn yet?
Lady, I get it. Waiting is not easy, especially when you’ve done all the “right things” and it still feels like your breakthrough is buffering. Whew...
But here’s the thing: God doesn’t waste the wait. There’s a Hebrew word that completely changed how I see my own waiting seasons: Qavah (קָוָה). And it means to wait with intention and expectation.
In contrast to the usual understanding of waiting, Qavah isn’t passive. It’s not sitting around with folded arms hoping for a miracle. It’s a faith posture: leaning forward, eyes fixed on Heaven, actively preparing for what God’s about to release next.
What Qavah Looks Like in Real Life: How to wait without losing heart
In my book, God, Is It My Turn Yet? I break down how to wait well without whining, settling, or quitting. Here’s a little preview to help you start right where you are:
1️⃣ Pray with a plan.
Don’t just pray for something, lady pray toward something. Ask God for clarity on what to do with your waiting season. Write down the vision He gives you, no matter how small it seems.
“Those who wait (qavah) on the Lord shall renew their strength.” — Isaiah 40:31. Translation: Those who lean in during the waiting will walk out stronger than before.
2️⃣ Work the word.
Faith without works is ineffective and leads to endless frustration. If God said you’ll start a business, start researching the business. If He said marriage, work on healing your heart. See the therapist. Let go of the 'situationships'. If you're believing for a child, begin to choose names and set up the nursery. Don’t just wait; work your wait. God will bless the work of your hands, and you have to give Him something to bless!
"The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none." Deuteronomy 28:12.
3️⃣ Shift your sightline.
Instead of staring at what hasn’t happened yet, start spotting where God is moving. The small blessings you overlook are often the breadcrumbs leading to the big one. Plus, your faith will be strengthened as you remember how good God has been in the past. He is a faithful Father!
4️⃣ Release the timeline.
God isn't bound by your timeline. He knows better and His timing is always perfect, even when it seems otherwise! In my life, I have tried to rush God's agenda - in my profession, in my business and even in romance - Lady, it doesn't work! Let God be the timekeeper while you stay the faithkeeper.
Your Action Step This Week
In my online Grown Lady Chat Community ( GLC) I stress the importance of action steps along our faith walk. So this week take 15 minutes each morning to ask:“How can I honor God while I wait?”
Then to be a good steward of your waiting season write one small action in your journal and actually do it. What's one small step toward your goal that you can take? Do that one step. Little steps, big faith.
Daily Declaration: "I will no longer wait for perfect conditions. I will move in faith, today, and God will meet me in motion."
